The Winter Solstice and Our Commitment to Our Lives

by Elektra Porzel

Dec 21st marks the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.  Both these days mark the time when the sun is shifting its impact on our lives.  Some of us cling to the hope for longer days and some of us let our  bodies and our land be fully heated by the sun as its rays grow our food for the season.

Now, modern western humans are both connected and not connected physically to the sun as were our ancestors.  We buy our food in the grocery store and don’t know the possibility of food not lasting into late spring.  Yet we are touched by the significance of this time of the year.  I think that this is when our Spirits remember other lifetimes where we lived that tenuous life, where some years our families starved and some years our families thrived.

Humans have always needed supports to see us thru both the hard times and the good times.  The Creation Exercises are such a tool for hope, for creating the world as we want it to be.  They give us templates to be able to listen to the deepest craving of our Spirit.  They give us templates to be honest and tell ourselves and Creation how we actually are – sad, happy, lonely, joyful.  We gift ourselves when we write the Creation Exercises.  We are our ancestors happily counting their food stores knowing that they have what they need into Spring.  We are our ancestors planning the hunts and plantings that will help our families and communities thrive, it’s just a different kind of hunt and a different kind of planting.

The Institute has been sponsoring the 90 Day Creation Projects since spring of 2017.  Over that time, over 100 people have joined us in committing to themselves to writing the creation exercises on a regular basis so that they can create a better life for themselves, their families and their communities.  Not so different than our ancestors when they committed to hope on the Winter Solstice every year, hope that the sun would increase the length of each day, that it would warm the earth and plants would grow so that their children and their communities could thrive.

Join us in the 90 Day Creation Project that begins on Dec 21st.  Join us in gratitude for all that has occurred in 2018 and in hope for all that can occur for yourselves, for your families and for your communities in 2019.  BE that creative force that directs your future, BE whom you came here to be.  To register, click here. https://sibforms.com/serve/MUIEALt09nTMibMWeaqfcfjoakMfqdLAb7jq7hdJmOd_nDKuImsMdic_uRoyanxb5LzFnuhbsjPtzXK8yBM83ddnpKaLbaOVa24gv29JMJHGOk0fXOGvZynFsfA-zKu5QvF-xla865564Jyyx50vrt8iDTFjnyQUu67LvTx5DmHAU7yGF8GVylTuSbqsip_5GFJbNgOOwMlYRvCw
